The Stamford Mid Lent Fair is a fair established by Royal Charter. It arrives every Mother's Day, staying for one week and occupying the lengths of Broad Street, Red Lion street, Red Lion Square, Sheepmarket, Castle Dyke and Bath Row. It is one of the largest street fairs in Europe. Townspeople have always had a good rapport with the regular showmen and women whose families have been part of the Mid Lent fair for hundreds of years. Stamford was an important major fair in medieval times and would once have focused on trade and selling, gradually becoming the modern funfair we know today. It is mentioned by Shakespeare in his play Henry 1V Part 2 which shows that it was known far and wide!

This is where modern technology meets Stamford's old buildings! This colourful Stamford attraction is one of the only fairs in Britain that takes place within the town streets.
Popular and lively, it attracts thousands of visitors and is a nostalgic favourite with Stamfordians. Some of the showmen returning here over the years include Farrars, Hollands, Rocky Thompson and Thursfords.
